Are you one of the 40% of Americans who exercise regularly? Or are you one of the rest who spend too much time on the couch? In this weeks Eye on Health, Carla Burbidge tells us it's time to get moving in time for Physical Fitness and Sports Month. Warmer weather is here, the perfect time to lace up those shoes and get some exercise. You have heard this said many times, but it really is true: exercise is the best thing you can do for your overall health. Dr. Terry Eckmann, Minot-state-university" class="kxInlineLink">MSU Fitness Professor, it helps with cardiovascular, prevents Diabetes, and cancer, mental health, slows down dementia and Alzheimers... The fact, that exercise promotes better mental health is from the most current research. Terry says one researcher calls exercise the miracle grow for the brain. Dr. Terry....it actually helps the brain like fertiizler helps flowers.... So, the benefits of fitness are overwhelming: why aren't more people exercising. Certainly there are lots of distractions and we all seem to be busy. Terry, who has been helping us with Our Eye on Fitness Series, for a few years now, says start small. Dr. Terry Eckmann, walk around the block, sit up and back down a few times, maybe soon you can add more.... Here's a great way either start, or add on to your exercise routine. A group called Minot Area Team Wellness is sponsoring walks all summer long, every Thursday evening. They will last a about an hour and each week they begin at a different spot. In fact, one "Walk Minot" event begins from KXMC, Thursday May 13th at 6pm, during the news. « Less
